The Art of Layering Jewellery This Summer

The Art of Layering Jewellery This Summer

Every layer tells a story of connection and lasting bonds

As the UAE golden summer approaches, the Salasil Gafla collection remains the perfect recipe for your luxury look.

Salasil comes from the Arabic word "chains." This collection celebrates the unbreakable bonds that connect us beyond just jewellery. Each piece is inspired by Emirati traditions and culture and reminds us of our most precious relationships, experiences, and personal journeys.

This season, you can master the art of jewellery layering, a trend that complements Salasil’s versatile designs.

Why stacking jewellery is more than a passing trend

In Emirati tradition, We tell stories through jewellery, marking different milestones in our lives. It is a connector, and a representation of strong legacies passed through generations.

The Salasil collection honours these traditions while adding a sprinkle of modern versatility. It brings you various pieces designed to match and mix easily. And, you can transition from day to night and work with casual and formal outfits.

Layering gold jewellery with Salasil

Mixing and matching different gold finishes makes the combination

even more versatile, which will stand out on any outfit.

For example,

  • Trace chains with a diamond-cut finish piece make a great combination

  • Other finishes like high-polished gold with geometric shapes

The 60-30-10 rule

Have you ever heard of the 60-30-10 rule of layering? It helps you balance the proportions you use when layering multiple pieces together.

60% should be foundation pieces, which are simple chains, studs, anklets, etc

30% should be your statement chains, like bold-coloured rings or gemstone pendants

10% of the combo should be minor accents, which are any charms or traditional motifs.

A pop of colour

You can't go wrong with some colour unless it's a formal event. Luckily, gold is a neutral shade that you can layer with almost anything.

To keep it simple, go for the monochromatic look and mix different shades of gold.

Combine more contrasting jewellery like our Salasil Solitaire pendants with diamonds, blue sapphire gemstones or rubies to switch things up.

Bonus tip: With multiple layers, simply remove one piece when in doubt. The best and most elegant stacks whisper more than they shout.

Necklaces

Use a solitaire diamond necklace as the foundation. Then, add a medium-length necklace with gemstones and diamonds. Top it off with a statement pendant, preferably with sapphires or rubies, depending on the occasion.

Pro tip: Vary the lengths of your pieces by at least 2 inches in between for an optimal look

Bracelets

Start with our signature diamond tennis bracelet as your foundation. Add a layer of colored gemstones to it for some color and sparkle. That could be rubies, sapphires or tsavorites, etc. Finish off with a charm bracelet like the Merwad wand bracelet to add some character.

Rings

Ring stacking can go three ways:

Statement style: Use a statement diamond band ring on the middle finger plus one or two simpler bands on the ring fingers such as our twin rings and the one row diamond ring.

Minimalist style: Add three bands of different widths on one finger, Asymmetric style: Use different styles on each hand.

Earrings

"Earrings are like the punctuation marks of your outfit."

Summer pairings just got easier with the Salasil collection, For the Daytime, go for our diamond studs or Salasil hoop earrings, For evenings and formal events, chandeliers and threader chains are your friends.

Extra tip: If you add a necklace, they do need to match your earrings….

Anklets

Anklets have been a major part of jewellery in the Gulf region. The Salasil collection allows you to modernise this tradition with contemporary pieces.

A deeper meaning to the Salasil collection

Every Salasil piece and combination tells a different story, as Gafla's Co-founder, Hamad bin Shaiban, once shared:

"Salasil is a reflection of how we’re all connected; through family, through heritage, through the stories we pass down and the moments we hold on to.”

This summer, begin your layering journey with the Salasil Gafla collection. Express your unique style and honour your Emirati heritage.
